A tourist destination is basically a place or region which is highly reliant on the tourism revenue. A typical tourist destination can be big, such as a major city. It can also be very small, such as a tiny coastal village or town. Regardless of its size or location, however, a tourist destination usually offers something of interest to visitors, which usually includes sightseeing, dining, and other forms of entertainment.
The reason a destination becomes a tourist destination, then, is mostly due to its appeal to visitors. In order to be appealing to tourists, a destination must be located in an area that has many options for sightseeing or other forms of entertainment. For example, if you want to visit Paris, you need not worry about how to reach the Eiffel Tower. If you want to go shopping, there are several large shopping malls available in just about any city, and plenty of restaurants, cafes, and other eating options. And if you want to go sightseeing, well, Paris is a good destination for that.
However, that said, sometimes a destination can become so popular that it saturates a city with tourism and there is little or no room for other activities. In this case, a destination would have to lose some of its appeal and specialize in a specific type of activity. For instance, a London tourist destination might limit its entertainment options to visiting a few landmarks, or taking in a few performances at a theater. An Atlanta destination might focus its efforts on producing the largest number of celebrities and football stars in the world, while a New York destination could emphasize its history and culture. There are lots of great destination ideas out there, so you’re bound to find one that interests you!
